Many people like to eat Coconut Makhana Paag on Janmashtami. In many homes, it is also made for offering in worship. Today we are going to make Coconut Makhana Paag with special spices. It is very tasty and you will enjoy eating it too.
Ingredients for Makhana Nariyal Paag
Ghee - 4 tbsp
Makhana - 2 cups (50 grams)
Dry Coconut - 2 cups (150 grams)
Sugar - 2 cups (450 grams)
White or black pepper - 1 tsp, powdered
Cardamom - 4, crushed
Nutmeg - ½, grated
Process of frying Coconut and Makhana
Put 4 tbsp of ghee in a pan and heat it. Then add 2 cups (50 grams) of makhana and fry it well till it changes color. Once the makhanas are roasted, take them out on a plate. Now put 1 tbsp of ghee in the same pan and heat it. Then put 2 cups (150 grams) of dry grated coconut in it and fry it well till it changes color and keep it in a plate.
Process of making Chashni
Put 2 cups (450 grams) of sugar and 1 cup of water in a pan and cook on medium flame till the sugar dissolves. Cook it while stirring it in between till the strings come. After the sugar dissolves, cook it for some more time and apply it on the finger again and see that a wire should be formed. In this way the syrup will be ready.
Process of making Coconut Makhana Paag
Make a coarse powder by crushing the roasted makhana. Then after the syrup is made, reduce the flame to low and put roasted makhana and coconut in it. Mix them well and add 1 tsp of white pepper, 4 powdered green cardamom and ½ grated nutmeg and mix them well. Then grease a plate and pour this mixture on that plate, now press it with the help of a spoon. Now keep it in the fridge for half an hour to set. Now cut it into any shape according to you, in this way the coconut makhana paag will be ready.
Suggestions
While making sugar syrup, check that it is two wire syrup.
If ever it seems that the paag has started blooming, then make a little syrup separately and mix it in the paag.
You can keep the paag outside and eat it for 15 days.
