Ambra Pickle Recipe - Hog Plum Pickle Recipe

Pickle and chutney have special place in every Indian meals. Person tends to eat more if pickles are served along with their meals. We often make pickles in various varieties. 

Amra (Ambarella or Hogplum) is a tarty fruit, which is used for making chutney and pickle. This fruit is available in abundance during summers. So, let's make Amra pickle today.

Ingredients for Amra Pickle - Hogplum Pickle

  • Amra fruit - 500 grams
  • Mustard oil - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 4 tbsp
  • Yellow or black mustard powder - 4 tsp
  • Fennel seeds - 4 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 2 tsp
  • Carom seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp

How to make Amra achar - Hogplum Pickle

Wash amra furit thoroughly and dry nicely. Remove stalk from both the ends and cut into thin and round slices.

Take mustard oil in the pan and heat it sufficiently. Reduce the flame and add fenugreek seeds, carom seeds and asafoetida. Saute for a while. Now add amra pieces and stir constantly. Saute for 2 minutes on low flame. Turn off the flame now and add all spices, mustard powder, fennel powder, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt and mix all ingredients really well. Every amra chunk should be nicely coated with the spices. Amra pickle is now ready. 

Once the pieces cool, store them in any air tight container. Stir the pickle 3 to 4 times in a day with help of a clean and dry spoon. 

Delicious Amra pickle is ready now. Serve this tempting and tarty flavored amra pickle with any meal you like. 

To have longer shelf life, make sure pickle is drenched in oil completely.
